SPLA Audit Help

Got a SPLA audit letter? Take a breath. You have time to get ready, and you don’t have to do it alone.

In a SPLA audit, an outside auditor checks your monthly SPLA reports against what you really had running. The letter usually gives you a set number of days to reply, often about 30. Check your own letter for the exact date.

We are SPLA consultants. We are not Microsoft.

Got a SPLA audit letter? What to do first

  1. Read the letter closely. Note the reply date and what time period it covers.
  2. Don’t agree to any number yet. Ask for the scope in writing.
  3. Pull your past SPLA reports. Audits often look back about three years. Match the reports to your invoices.
  4. List what’s really running. Servers, products, and users. Compare that list to your reports.
  5. Check where things run. Since October 1, 2025, you can’t use your own SPLA licenses on Listed Providers like AWS, Azure, Google, or Alibaba.
  6. Write down any fixes and the date you made them.
